Unfair Global Trade

►Costs imposed by federal, state and local governments are
damaging manufacturing more than any foreign competitor.

Some concerning facts:

  • Complex domestic trade rules hinder American manufacturers’ ability to export.
  • America now imports 50 percent more goods and services than it exports.
  • The U.S. international deficit in goods and services increased from $717 billion in 2005 to $764 billion in 2006. This is the highest in history.

Global Trade Reforms

  1. Change U.S. export controls to promote national security and economic competitiveness.
  2. Require all trading partners to implement or maintain market-based currency policies.
  3. Enforce trade and compliance rules.
  4. Impose sanctions against violators.
