Q) What is grassroots advocacy?
A) Grassroots advocacy is an effort by like-minded individuals acting to achieve a specific legislative or regulatory outcome. Lobbying activities by KPP members are an effective means of providing decision-makers and the general public with information and opinions on issues affecting the business community.
What kind of advocate are you?
Novice Advocate: This advocate is just dipping their toes into the political scene. They vote yearly, read the monthly "On the Hill" article in the Business Magazine, and participate in the yearly Economic Snapshot Survey that reports the state of the economy and operations at their facility.
Action Alert Advocate: This advocate does all that the Novice Advocate does, plus: reads The Hill Midweek Report e-newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest business-related happenings across the Commonwealth and nation, actively sends customized letters to legislators through Capwiz, and votes in KPP online polls.
Issue-Based Advocate: If it concerns a specific business issue such as taxes, then you are ready to write! This advocate does all items of the Novice and Action Alert advocates, plus: monitors KPP on Facebook and Twitter, has read the Issues 2009: Legislative Priorities Briefing Book, and attends events hosted by the MBA.
Intermediate Advocate: This advocate is on the brink of excellence! They do all activities associated with the Novice, Action Alert and Issue-Based Advocate, plus: subscribe to the daily News You Can Use e-newsletter, engage in discussions in public forums at keepproducing.org, and even host a plant tour for their legislators.
Five-Star KPP Advocate: Political junkie, here you come! This advocate does what all other advocates do, plus: tracks MBA Key Votes, contributes to the MBA-PAC, and attends hill and district legislative visits in order to develop and foster relationships with their legislators.
